Tang Studio assisted Moses Katz & Associates in their flood mitigation design for a new mixed use development in a flood zone in Queens. The residential lobby was wet flood proofed with raised stair landings and flood vents to allow water to automatically enter and recede without impeding egress. Removable flood shields were proposed to protect the cellar level and the ground floor retail space as part of a dry flood proofing strategy to keep water out. A comprehensive flood emergency plan was developed for flood shield deployment that covered logistics, storage, warning and deployment time, annual drills, secondary lines of defense, and post flood resiliency.
